It was these three deities that first descended upon the void from a distant Nebula and created the world. They breathed life onto the world they created, and then they left this world as it was, leaving behind only the Triforce as a reminder of their past presence. The Goddesses had a continuing following among the peoples of Hyrule, but most specifically among the Hylians, who were the chosen people of the Goddesses. When created, the Hylians were blessed with the ability to wield magic and with distinguishing long ears, so that they might hear the words of the Goddesses.
Din was the Goddess of Power? and the force behind the Triforce of Power. Din was also the Goddess that created and cultivated the Earth.
Farore was the Goddess of Courage? and the force behind the Triforce of Courage. She was the Goddess that created all life in the world.
Nayru was the Goddess of Wisdom? and the force behind the Triforce of Wisdom. She was the Goddess that bestowed wisdom upon the world, its life, and gave the spirit of law to all the races.
References to the Goddesses after the time of Link to the Past is sketchy - and even then the Three were increasingly being referenced as a legend rather than truth - until the point where recognition of their existence was completely forgotten (around the time of Legend of Zelda). Perhaps the peoples of Hyrule became fed up with these higher beings because they seemingly refused to come to Hyrule aid in times of need, ie. The Great Flood, The Plague, and Ganon's Return.
In lands outside of Hyrule, rather than being represented by a Council of Sages, the Goddesses were represented by three Oracles?, named after the Three themselves.
