A stone fortress located in the northwest of the Great Sea. The fortress itself covers the entire island on which it sits, making it nearly inpenetrable. It was said to be the stronghold of the Desert Gerudo before the Flood, and was used as a base for a short while by said Gerudo after the Flood, until they could establish a home on another island or leave to turn to pirateering. Later Hylian pirates added to the stronghold's defenses to act as a base while preying on passing sailors.
The fortress stood for many years under control of pirate groups and their various leaders. But one year a portal appeared in the main dock of the fortress. Out of the portal apearred a dark legend long thought defeated. Ganondorf, having finally found an escape from the flooded Hyrule below, descimated the pirate forces, destroying their ships and slaying their people. Only a few ships escaped destruction, one of these being under control of a young pirate named Tetra.
With the pirates defeated and fortress from which to launch his plans, Ganondorf began his search for the remaining triforce pieces. When Link's sister Aryll was captured and brought to the fortress, Link launch a rescue mission with the help of Tetra.
Link infiltrated the fortress and found his sister, but he was unable to save his sister. He was captured and brought before Ganondorf, having no use for the boy he casted him into the sea. Link returned the fortress, this time in force. Battling his way through the main gate, and Ganondrf's henchmen Phantom Ganon? and the Helmaroc King. Finally Link reach Ganondorf, but he was defeated. Link was rescued by the Rito, and then the great dragon Valoo set fire to the top of the fortress. Ganondorf escaped through his portal and brought all his forces within the fortress with him. The fortress was left deserted to serve as a destroyed monument of the past.
